Extreme Networks has today announced that leading law firm Taylor Wessing LLP is using a selection of its BlackDiamond and Summit® family switches to install a fast, resilient and future-proofed network that is able to support a fully converged voice and data infrastructure.
A dynamic and pragmatic organisation, Taylor Wessing identified the need to provide its employees with the latest technological advancements in integrated communications. Prior to the relocation of the London offices to New Street, London in November 2008, the firm realised that it needed to implement a fast, resilient and fully flexible network to support the triple play services it was looking to host.
“The relocation gave us the opportunity to search for a new network infrastructure, capable of providing the support and resiliency we needed,” explained Taylor Wessing’s IT Director, Tim Hyman. “Our criteria was based on fulfilling three new business objectives: installing a new practise management system that could be accessed by its other worldwide offices, the installation of a new E-filing initiative and the implementation of new and improved internal communication methods such as video conferencing and VoIP telephony.”
To gain a thorough understanding of the market and the options available, Taylor Wessing turned to Coleman Bennett International (CBI) for a full evaluation of potential vendors.
“Taylor Wessing was very clear about what it wanted, and needed, from its new network,” commented CBI’s IT Project Director, Bob White. “By providing the company with Extreme Networks’ products and solutions, we knew that they would benefit from the performance, integration and functionality the products would supply, all at the lowest TCO.”
Following the installation of the new network, Taylor Wessing is now benefiting from a fast and resilient network, and also enjoying increased efficiency in both software application use and staff workload.
“The workload for the IT staff in particular has been greatly eased,” confirmed Hyman. “Prior to this network, a lot of time was spent ‘putting out fires’ so to speak. Now we can deal with problems in a matter of minutes, and the network is far more robust and resilient.”
In addition to the new London offices, other Taylor Wessing sites located in Germany, France and Belgium, are using Extreme Networks as a platform for voice and data products, with the German office also employing Extreme Networks’ switches.
“Organisations such as Taylor Wessing have diverse technological needs, and have presented us with an interesting challenge to provide products and services that improve the operational efficiency and provide a solid network backbone for future advancements,” said Extreme Networks’ Regional Director for UK and Ireland, Gary Newbold. “With the abundance of video conferencing and IP telephony, Taylor Wessing is at the forefront of its industry, having adopted an improved communications infrastructure, whilst lowering its total cost of ownership.”
