Recession persuades 83 percent of IT pros to consider studying for a new qualification

Since the start of the recession, 83 percent of techies have considered studying for a new qualification, according to research from The IT Job Board, www.theitjobboard.co.uk.

37 percent stated that the main reason for this was to increase their chances of getting a job, and 29 percent believed it would broaden their skills set.

When asked which areas they considered would be most important to flag up on their CV, when applying for a job, 46 percent of IT professionals stated that it would be highlighting the number of years of experience they had. 34 percent believed that it would be important to show relevant IT qualifications.

Supporting the above consensus, 100 percent of the industry recruiters surveyed cited that candidates highlighting their additional IT qualifications would stand a better chance of securing a job. And 100 percent also thought that those with certifications that supported experience would progress further in the recruitment process.

All IT professionals questioned advised that companies recruiting today tend to look for specialist skills.

“IT pros who fail to keep up-to-speed with industry changes and new qualifications risk the possibility of missing out on new job roles, to those taking a more serious and planned approach to developing their careers.”
