London – 1 October 2009: hybris, www.hybris.com, a leading multi-channel commerce and communication software vendor, is pleased to announce that as a result of implementing a new e-commerce solution for Newey & Eyre earlier this year, the UK’s leading distributor of quality electrical supplies has been able to develop sales by helping customers to reduce project completion times and allowing them to order important supplies even when the 160+ branches are closed.
The new online ordering service, called Neweys Online (www.neweysonline.co.uk), enables professional contractors to order electrical, health & safety and construction consumables around the clock and to arrange a convenient pick up time at their local store. Previously when working on their customers’ projects, they would have had to down tools and travel to the store during normal working hours. They can now spend less time ordering goods and more time delivering an excellent job.
Paul Parker, CIO at Rexel UK, parent company of Newey & Eyre, said: "The quickest order we have had placed is in 2 minutes 47 seconds with only 7 page views, including login, locating the right products and checking out. More than 20% of our online orders have been seen to be placed out of hours which demonstrates that contractors are already seeing the benefit of the new e-commerce website and making better use of the time available to them. Newey & Eyre has always prided itself in being an innovator within the market, and the leading position in web trading for electrical wholesale is something we relish.”
According to Mintel, (http://www.mintel.com), a leading market research company, the UK electrical wholesale market declined by 5% to £3,317 million in 2008, reflecting the tough economic and trading conditions as a result of the credit crunch. Mintel also predicts that 2009 will see the market contract again by 4% but that it will recover by 2010. Neweys Online aims to help contractors buck these market trends by enabling contractors to streamline their order processing, order out of hours and assist in product selection.
Andrew Piscina, UK Country Manager for hybris, said: "We are delighted that, by adopting and enhancing multi-channel and online best practices, Newey & Eyre has seen real business benefits, improving the service it provides to its customers and its ability to market its portfolio to an even wider audience, cost effectively."
