Cleaning Up the Real Money Trading (RMT) Industry – One Game at a Time Gaming Resource EpicToon.com Takes Initiative against Gold Spam in Aion

Published 16th September 2009

September 7, 2009 –EpicToon today announced its support of the much talked about ‘Cleaning up the Industry’ campaign, an initiative against bad practices in real money trading (RMT).

Over the course of several years, in-game spammers or gold spammers have flooded many online multiplayer games causing problems for players, game publishers and developers. Games like World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XI and Warhammer Online are no strangers to an unfailing stream of advertising in-game whispers, mail box messages, and public chat that completely ruins the virtual world’s environment.

The latest victim is NCSoft’s newest online game; Aion. Targeted by spamming companies, Aion’s Chinese servers are being overrun by lawless in-game spammers. The problem has reached a point where first-time players are greeted and put off by gold spam for ‘Aion Kinah,’ the game’s virtual currency. EpicToon.com notes that Aion has only been out in China for a few months and the in-game spam has already made the game virtually unplayable.

Aion is due for a North American (NA) and European (EU) release on September 25, 2009. EpicToon.com is calling out to fans of Aion and all gamers alike to band together and prevent this from happening on the NA and EU servers.

Cleaning up the Industry is a campaign that aims to protect players and consumers from fraud and harassment through information and effective regulation of the RMT industry. By supporting only trusted RMT sites, consumers can help foster a healthier and more competitive secondary market that allows players to experience online multiplayer games without disruption, and reduce, if not eliminate, cases of fraud and account theft.

Kevin Ross, EpicToon.com’s marketing executive, asks players and consumers to join the initiative by not supporting spam companies; “As a gamer myself, it is infuriating to see another prospective MMORPG ruined by Chinese currency sellers. In general across all MMORPG’s, gamers are increasingly frustrated by the amount of trashy advertisements and in-game spamming, it simply must be stopped. The cleaning up the industry campaign gives consumers control and I would urge all gamers not to purchase game items, accounts or currency from any sites that spam in-game”.

Cleaning up the Industry is part of EpicToon.com’s goal to improve the gaming and RMT industry for players and consumers.
