SellaBand Albums Will Now Be Available for Sale to Amazon.com Customers for the First Time via CreateSpace CD on Demand Technology
New York, NY. – April 1, 2009 – SellaBand (www.sellaband.com), the online music company where music fans invest in up-and-coming artists, today announces its collaboration with CreateSpace, part of the Amazon.com group of companies. As of today, consumers will be able to buy SellaBand albums from a dedicated SellaBand Store (www.amazon.com/Sellaband) using CreateSpace’s Disc on Demand service, an inventory-free solution in which discs are manufactured only after a customer places an order.
“For SellaBand, CreateSpace is the natural fit for expanded US distribution,” said Johan Vosmeijer, CEO of SellaBand. “This deal with CreateSpace will connect SellaBand artists to a worldwide audience on Amazon.com. As an alternative to traditional record labels, we are happy to be able to offer our selection of SellaBand-produced albums on-demand, to millions of Amazon.com customers.”
The premise for SellaBand is simple – any artist(s) can sign up to the site and showcase their music to the general public. As part of signing up, the artist issues 5,000 so called “parts”. Parts cost US$10 each. These parts are made available to purchase to the general public – and it is this show of support that turns an individual into a “Believer”. Together Believers need to raise US$50,000 to get their Artist of choice in the studio and produce an album. To date 30 Artists from 13 different countries have raised the full US$50,000 and over US$3,000,000 has been invested in unsigned artists.
SellaBand also has collaborations with Amazon.co.uk (www.amazon.co.uk) and Amazon.de (www.amazon.de), and recently announced the appointment of music icon and Public Enemy frontman Chuck D as Ambassador for the company, supporting its US expansion.
