Published 29th July 2008

Following an extensive and detailed procurement process North Yorkshire Police Force and North Yorkshire Police Authority have selected GOSS as their partner of choice for an exciting new website re-design and delivery project.

GOSS will be working in partnership with North Yorkshire Police Force and Authority to deliver an improved, user-friendly, customer focused and fully accessible website.

The site will be re-designed and built using GOSS's market leading web content management system iCM, on a .NET platform and hosted on GOSS’s dedicated web servers. The GOSS iCM solution will give North Yorkshire Police Force the power to ensure multiple contributors can up-load content quickly and easily with a minimum of training, offering Force-wide devolved content contribution.

GOSS iCM's power delivers easy, controlled contribution for the North Yorkshire Police Force and Authority including:

• Copying Microsoft Word and Excel based content directly to the website
• Full WYSIWYG editing and contribution
• Automatic discovery and relationship building of related information hidden within content using GOSS iSuggestor
• Forum and blog management
• RSS input/output control
• Management of a wide array of items of content individually or in bulk
• Controllable content to ensure consistency and ease of use

GOSS iCM offers the North Yorkshire Police Force and Authority powerful administration as standard including:

• Delegation of authority for contribution or administration
• Controllable data capture and tracking
• Version control that will track changes
• Process workflows with scheduling, reminders and automatic archiving
• Web analytics that empower site managers to measure and change visitor journeys
• Expert support and training by dedicated GOSS personnel
• Automated web standards and accessibility validation of published content

The new website is expected to go live in November 2008.

“We are looking for a new website that allows members of our communities to easily access information that can be updated at a click of a button in-house or in-situ and the system offered by GOSS does just that.

With the new system, we will be able to devolve responsibility for updates down to areas and Safer Neighbourhoods Teams meaning that the information is written by the people on the front line who really understand local priorities and needs and can update and feedback to their communities in real time. This is a very exciting time for the Force and Authority and we are certain that the benefits will be felt throughout the organisation” said Gina Allen, Website Development Project Coordinator, North Yorkshire Police Authority.

“This exciting joint website development by NYP and NYPA gives us the opportunity to meet some of the consultation challenges set out in the recently published Green Paper. The website will help communities understand the reality of what is happening in their own area” said Chief Superintendent Tim Madgwick, Chief of Staff for North Yorkshire Police.

“Winning the contract of another Police Force, comes as a result of the lessons learnt delivering market leading websites in the Local Authority sector, being transferred to the Police sector. At GOSS we understand and provide solutions for citizen focused websites that contain large amounts of information that is clearly displayed, easily accessed and effortlessly maintained. Our websites are able to meet the Government’s accessibility requirements for public sector online strategies whilst engaging the citizen.” said Robert McCarthy, Managing Director, Goss Interactive Ltd.
