European Organisations Are Leading The Way With 10Gb Adoption

20 May 2008 - Over a quarter of UK and European businesses will have deployed 10Gb networks by the end of the year, according to the recent State of the Network Survey, from Network Instruments...

Twenty-two organisations already have 10Gb networks in place and this is set to grow with two strong factors driving adoption; firstly, extra capacity is needed to eliminate congestion and assure the delivery of data heavy, IP services such as VoIP and Web 2.0 applications. The second factor is price.

“The need is easy to identify. Most organisations want and need to send higher volumes of data at higher speeds. Also, the price differential between Gigabit and 10Gb has eroded, so when companies are upgrading their infrastructure for a new technology roll-out, they are opting to install 10Gb,” explained Ian Cummins, VP EMEA Network Instruments.

The survey interviewed 600 CIOs, IT managers and directors throughout Europe and America.

According to the survey, 27 per cent of European organisations will have implemented 10 Gb by the end of 2008 (16% already implemented, 11% implementing within 12 months). This compares to 23 per cent of American organisations (12 per cent having deployed and 11 per cent implementing within 12 months).

Business networks with more than 2500 users throughout Europe are most likely to deploy 10Gb networks.
