Oxford, 4 March 2008 - Take up of the JANETtxt SMS service has surpassed 1 million messages since its introduction in May 2007. With over 100 Schools, Further and Higher educational organisations now using the service, JANETtxt provides cost effective communications for staff and students.

JANETtxt complements or can replace existing email and postal methods. It has proved its value in areas as diverse as administrative notifications for lecture changes or exam results, student mentoring, business continuity planning, library returns and club activities.

The JANETtxt messaging service provided by PageOne on behalf of JANET(UK) is a comprehensive suite of secure one and two-way text messaging services and is specifically tailored to meet the requirements of the UK Education Community. Since its launch in May 2007, the service has grown to become a very successful communication tool amongst schools, colleges and universities and there are future plans to integrate the JANETtxt service with Moodle, an open source VLE.
